Breaking news: Erik ten hag wins Battle with Manchester United to sign champions league winning assistant manager.

 According to The Telegraph, Manchester

United is poised to employ Steve McClaren

as one of the assistant managers under new

 head coach Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was named the club's new permanent

manager earlier today, after the parties

reached an agreement on a three-year

contract. At the conclusion of the campaign

, he will take over as president.

The Dutchman has yet to choose

his backroom staff, although two assistant

managers in the dugout appear to be a possibility

. Mitchell van der Gaag, his current Ajax

assistant, should be one of them.

McClaren appears to be the other

candidate. Between 1999 and 2001, the

60-year-old served as Sir Alex Ferguson's

assistant manager. He was thought to

be one of the most tactically astute.
