Breaking news: Manchester United board announces new team captain after Maguire awful display against Liverpool.
Manchester United 1970s hero Gordon
Hill has slammed Harry Maguire following
his first-half display against Liverpool.
The captain saw his side ship two goals
within 22 minutes as United went into the
break 2-0 down. Before the match, the 29-
year-old had fired back at criticism claiming
he was enduring a poor season.
“I'd say from this season, I've had some
bad games. But I wouldn't be playing every
game for Manchester United in the starting
XI if I'd been playing bad every game or not
playing well enough,” he said. However,
Hill seemingly thought his performance in
the first 45 minutes against Liverpool proved
otherwise. In fact the 68-year-old said Maguire
was playing at far beneath the standard
expected of a United player.
The former winger tweeted: “Harry (
Maguire) not fit enough to wear a United
jersey.” Hill played more than 100 times
for United between 1975 and 1978, lifting
the FA Cup and Community Shield in 1977.
He was the club's top scorer in the 1977
/77 and 1977/78 seasons. The England
international also played for the likes
of Derby, QPR and Millwall in his career.
