Breaking news: Mason Greenwood lawyer gives Manchester United clear the air after Manchester United fans were kept on suspense about final decisions made amid Greenwood, here is the final decision made .
Manchester United maintain that
Mason Greenwood's status at Old Trafford
is unchanged despite fans still being able
to access his player profile on the club's
official website.
The 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion
of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill in
late January, with police taking him into
custody before officers were granted additional
time to question him. But Greenwood,
who has since lost sponsors such as Nike
and was removed from multiple video
games, is still a Red Devils player -
albeit suspended "until further notice."
An extract from his profile on United's
website, which supporters have pointed
on social media, reads: "An exciting striker
who has been well ahead of schedule
in terms of his progress through the ranks
at United and has made a huge impact
in 2019/20." In the wake of his arrest,
the No.11 was removed from the first-
team squad list on the club's official app
in order to exclude him from interactive
elements which are not available
on their desktop website, as reported
by the Manchester Evening News.
Three days after his initial arrest, Greenwood
was released on bail and remains the
subject of an ongoing police investigation.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police
(GMP) read: "A 20-year-old man arrested
(on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion
of the rape and assault of a woman
has been released on bail pending further
investigation."
Mirror Football recently had it confirmed
by GMP that his bail will expire on Saturday
, 30 April, at which point it could be
extended. The Red Devils academy
graduate has not trained with or played
for his boyhood club since the 1-0 Premier
League victory over against West Ham
on Saturday, January 22.
Over the following weeks, Greenwood
was removed from popular video games
FIFA 22 and Football Manager. American
sportswear giants Nike also suspended
their sponsorship, adding via The Athletic
: "We are deeply concerned by the disturbing
allegations and will continue to closely
monitor the situation."
Snack company Cadbury also released
a statement, reading: "Cadbury does not
condone violence in any form. Our
Partnership is with the club itself and not
the individual players. However, while
these allegations are being investigated,
any marketing or products we create
with Manchester United will not feature
this player. We will continue to monitor
the situation closely."
United reaffirmed their "strong condemnation
" of violence after their player was further
arrested. "We will not make any further
comment until the facts have been established
," the club explained in a statement of their
own. "Manchester United does not condone
violence of any kind."
Meanwhile, GMP confirmed previously
that Greenwood's accuser has been offered
"specialist support." The forward made
his senior debut for the Red Devils in March
2019 and has gone on to rack up 129
appearances, scoring 35 goals in United
colours, while also earning one England cap.
