 Mason Greenwood's suspension

 from playing for Manchester United

 earlier this season was a factor in the

 club's "difficult" breakup with 

Jesse Lingard. 



The Red Devils were shocked 

by severe claims against Greenwood, 

who was arrested in February, and 

Fabrizio Romano said that it prompted

 them to alter their transfer plans. 


Lingard was denied the transfer to 

Newcastle that he so sorely desired 

in January, with Manchester United 

plainly concerned about a lack of 

attacking options if he went. 


In his latest CaughtOffside essay, 

Romano says, "The relationship between

 Jesse Lingard and Manchester United 

has been incredibly problematic in 

recent months, this is 100 percent true." 

"It's because of the January Deadline

 Day: Lingard wished to depart.
