Confirmed : 4-3-3 Manchester United starting 11 vs Brentford, midfielder returns ,attacker makes final Old Trafford start ,six start to player farewell game and about to leave after game (full list available in details ).
Manchester United’s final home game
of the season will be held tonight
as the Red Devils take on Brentford.
The game moves us one step closer
to the end of the campaign, with away
matches at Brighton and Crystal Palace
to follow.
United’s task is made tougher by
news Jadon Sancho is expected to
Harry Maguire is also out, the
club website confirmed, in addition to
Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba being absent
. Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the Chelsea
game, and is questionable for this fixture.
The good news is Fred is likely to return
. He was pictured back in training last
week but the Chelsea game came
a little too soon.
Fred will likely partner Scott McTominay
back in midfield, with Nemanja Matic
likely to be on the bench for his final
home game.
United’s defence is expected to be the
same as against Chelsea, with Alex
Telles, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof
and Diogo Dalot featuring, amid
limited options.
Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line,
looking to add to his tally of eight
goals in his last nine games, and a haul
of 23 for the season.
He will be supported by Bruno Fernandes
, and Anthony Elanga, who scored
in the away win over Brentford in January.
Marcus Rashford also scored as a substitute
in that match, and he may have to settle
for a place on the bench in this game.
He was awful against Chelsea and
deserves to be dropped, even with
limited options.
For this game, as disappointing as this
may be, there is a chance Juan Mata
gets the start on the right – as a sentimental
selection for his last ever Old Trafford
start, over Rashford, or any young stars.
Edinson Cavani could also be fit to return
to the matchday squad for the first time
since March. A place on the bench
could be his best option.
Clues suggest youngsters won’t start
United fans rightly want to see young
players feature in this game, with the
season effectively over. But it may
not be the case, despite Alejandro
Garnacho making his debut as a
Garnacho, Alvaro Fernandez, and Hannibal
all played 69 minutes of an under-23
game on Sunday. This suggests they
weren’t exactly being kept fresh to start
this game. Shola Shoretire played all
90 minutes.
The quartet will likely be on the bench
for United, and could be joined by
one or two others. But they will probably
fall short of making the starting XI.
It is a shame as we would rather see
Fernandez start over Telles, and Hannibal
in one of the midfield positions, with
Garnacho over Mata.
