The former Ajax manager has given 

his first interview since taking over 

at Old Trafford from interim manager

 Ralf Rangnick this summer, and 

he explicitly named the defender. 


'Next season is a different season,' 

ten Hag replied when asked if 

Maguire will stay captain. 


'He performed an excellent job, 

he is a fantastic player who has made

 a significant contribution to 

Manchester United.' I'm excited

 to collaborate with him.' 


Since his £80 million signing from

 Leicester in summer 2019, the 29-

year-old England centre defender 

has become synonymous with the 

club's difficulties, becoming the 

subject of supporters' ire for 

perceived underperformance.
